The suspects were nabbed after they broke into two shops at the Agbado area of the state and stole money, handsets and clothes.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly robbed a boutique and a grocery shop and would have gotten away with the crime but luck ran out on them when the owner of the boutique barged into one of the suspects as he was trying to escape with his loot and apprehended him.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) office, Ikeja. They claimed to have completed their Senior Secondary School and luck ran out on them as this was their first time.
Peter said: “I wrote Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination and I am waiting for my admission. I work as a labourer at a building site and that was where I met Emeka.
“I wanted to make quick money and I drafted Emeka into my plans. I told him that there are many shops along the AIT Alagbado Road and the owners do not lock them properly.
“I told Emeka we can burgle the shops and steal what we want. I had to get a gun for our operation; I bought the gun from a friend for N50,000. We met at the bus stop and perfected our plans.
“On that fateful day, we went into the shops and stole recharge cards phones clothes and other valuables. I was inside the shop stealing while the others were outside. The next thing, I saw a man entering the shop. He grabbed me as I made to escape. This is my first time of doing such a thing. I feel bad about what I have done.”
On his path, Emeka blamed bad friends for luring him into crime. “I was earning money as a labourer though it was not enough but I was okay. Peter was the one that sold the idea of going to robb to me. I felt I should make enough money before I go to the university but it has landed me into trouble.”
