Firefighters watch as house burns down because owner didn’t pay $75 fee
A woman in Tennessee, said that she was horrified to watch a fire consume her home as firefighters stood by and did nothing to extinguish the blaze.
Vicky Bell told her friends that to watch the behavior of the firefighters was almost as disturbing as the fire itself.
It is the second time in two years that firefighters have stood by as a house burned down due to unpaid fees. Last year, Gene Cranick of Obion County, lost all his possessions in a fire at his home, along with three dogs and a cat.
Residents are required to pay an annual fee of $75 to the fire department. The city makes no exceptions.
City officials said that Bell, should have known the policies of the fire department.
Bell and her boyfriend said that they were aware of the policy, but thought that a fire will never break out in their home.
