
Senator George Akume
This was the position of Senator George Akume, the former Senate minority leader on Sunday, August 2.
Speaking at his residence in Makurdi while meeting a delegation from Ushongo local government area of the state which paid him a condolence visit over the death of his elder brother, Idyer Akume Dajo, Akume advised Suswam to pray to God for forgiveness for impoverishing the people of the state, Daily Independent reports.Akume added that if Suswam is sincere in his prayers, God will hear and forgive him.
The minority leader in the 7th National Assembly, noted that if not for the love for the people of the state, he would have stayed out of Benue following the impoverishment during Suswam’s tenure.
Until his death, Akume’s elder brother, Idyer Akume Dajo was the paramount ruler of Tarka LGA of the state.
Suswam was reported to have left Nigeria during the inauguration ceremony of President Muhammadu Buhari in the company of Olusegun Aganga, the minister of industry, trade and investment, and Chief Tony Anenih, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain.
The trio were reported to have left the country to avoid being probed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Just before leaving the country, Governor Suswam disclosed that his administration left a debt profile of N9.2bn behind for Governor Samuel Ortom.
